Actilyse 20mg Injection is a medicine which dissolves the clots that have formed in blood vessels. It is used to treat stroke, heart attack, and pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs). It is known as a thrombolytic or “clot-busting” medicine. Actilyse 20mg Injection is given directly into a vein by a doctor as soon as possible after the first signs of a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism are noticed. Your breathing, blood pressure, oxygen levels and other vital signs will be watched closely. You may be given another medicine to prevent the formation of new blood clots at the same time or after the treatment. Actilyse 20mg Injection may cause confusion, nausea, and vomiting. It has many serious side effects. The most common and serious side effect of this medicine is bleeding. Treatment with this drug can lead to bleeding in the brain (cerebral hemorrhage), extremely low blood pressure (shock), and cardiac arrest (where your heart stops beating). Your treatment may be stopped if any of these happen. Talk to your doctor about the risk of serious side effects before you are given this medicine. This medicine is not suitable for everyone. There is a long list of situations where you will not be given Actilyse 20mg Injection including if you have had a head injury, surgery of your brain or spinal cord, and any current bleeding anywhere in your body. Your healthcare team will need to know a lot about your medical history before giving you this medicine. In Treatment of Heart attack Actilyse 20mg Injection dissolves harmful blood clots that cause heart attack (if they are in the heart). They also dissolve clots that form in other blood vessels. This means that blood can again start to flow freely through your body. This medicine will, therefore, reduce both the damage caused by, and the risk of dying from a heart attack. The sooner the injection is given, the greater are the chances of recovery. In Treatment of Ischemic stroke Actilyse 20mg Injection is sometimes called a “clot-buster” because it dissolves harmful blood clots that cause strokes (if they are in the brain). This helps the blood flow freely around your body thereby reducing the damage caused by and the future risk of stroke. It should be given as soon as possible after the onset of stroke. In Treatment of Pulmonary embolism Pulmonary embolism refers to clotting of blood in your lungs. Actilyse 20mg Injection prevents this clot formation in your lungs. This helps the blood flow freely around your body thereby preventing a heart attack or stroke. It prevents the formation of blood clots and also prevents the existing ones from growing bigger in size. Make appropriate lifestyle changes (such as eating healthy and staying active) to maximize the effectiveness of this medicine. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to get maximum benefit.
